Sub-$2 gas prices the norm in New Jersey, elsewhere

Two other states have joined New Jersey with the distinction of having average gas prices under $2.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says average prices in Virginia and Delaware fell below $2 last week. The organization also says more than one-third of gas stations nationwide are selling gas for $2 per gallon or less.

New Jersey’s average gas price for a gallon of regular unleaded was $1.95 last week, down four cents from a week earlier and down 55 cents from a year ago.

Nationally, the average price was $2.14, also down 4 cents from a week ago and down 55 cents from a year ago.

Nationally, gas prices are at their lowest mark for this date since 2004.

AAA says prices are expected to remain low for the rest of the summer.
