Stray bullet strikes Germantown woman while she was in bed

Philadelphia Police were called to the 5800 block of Morton Street just before 3 p.m. Friday after a 58-year-old woman was struck in the right side of the face by a stray bullet while she was in bed on the second floor of her home.

Initial police reports indicate that the bullet came through a window and struck the woman, who was rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition but expected to survive. Outside, a silver car’s window was also shattered by the gunfire.

NBC10 reported that the gunfire came from a nearby front lawn as that car passed by; it was believed to have been involved in another shooting on nearby Mechanic Street.

It was also reported that the victim — who was not yet identified by police — watched neighborhood children while their parents were at work. The victim’s daughter and four young children were inside at the time of the shooting.
