Stranded jet skier rescued from Raritan Bay [video]

A jet skier was rescued early Thursday evening by first responders from both New Jersey and New York.

Crews began searching for the jet skier who had capsized and was adrift in the Raritan Bay off Keansburg after the man called for help, according to a Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office release.

In addition to the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, the New York City Police Department, Fire Department of New York, U.S. Coast Guard, and the Brevent Park Fire Company responded.

The responders began searching the area, and an NYPD helicopter crew spotted the man “within minutes,” according to an NYPD release.

“The NYPD pilot hovered the helicopter above the water where two divers jumped out to rescue the 21-year-old man. A rescue basket was lowered and the man and divers were brought into the helicopter,” the release said.

The man was transported to Staten Island University North Hospital for observation.
