Smokin’ Joe Frazier’s tomb unveiled at Ivy Hill Cemetery
Friends and family of the late Smokin’ Joe Frazier gathered at Ivy Hill Cemetery in the city’s Cedarbrook section on Saturday morning for an event at which the boxing legend’s tomb/monument was unveiled.
The “memorial celebration” commemorated the spot where the boxing legend was finally put to rest on Wednesday, a year to the day when he died of liver cancer.
Several, but not all, of Frazier’s sons and daughters were on hand.
Said Frazier’s daughter Renae-Frazier Martin, the monument was organized by the boxer’s children, with help from modern-day pugilist Floyd Mayweather Jr., according to a press release sent out by family members.
Frazier’s remains had been kept in an unmarked mausoleum in the year since his passing, but were transferred to the new tomb on Wednesday.
“It’s set off by itself, and it looks great,” said Frazier’s youngest son Derek of the location. “I’m really happy with it.”
