‘Run for Shane’ raises over $2K for missing Roxborough man’s family

It was a sea of green on Manayunk’s Main Street on Saturday morning as friends, family and community athletes geared up for the Goals Fit annual holiday Jolly Run.

This year the run raised over $2,000 to help assist the family of missing Roxborough man Shane Montgomery as they search for him.  

Montgomery has been missing since early Thanksgiving morning after a night out with friends and family in Manayunk. 

On Sunday, a recovery unit found Montgomery’s keys in the Schuylkill River. No further evidence was found.

About 100 runners showed up for the 5K and 5-miler through the hills of Manayunk in support of Montgomery — who ran cross country at Roman Catholic High School — and his family.

Wearing Montgomery’s favorite color, green, and donning bells, the runners made some noise to let the community know the search for Montgomery is still in full effect.

Goals Fit owner, Kasey Manwaring, kicked off the event and reminded the runners what the day was all about.

“Every year we try and choose a cause that hits close to home, and nothing comes closer than the Montgomery family at this time, so get out there and make some noise,” she said.

Father John Kelly of St. John the Baptist Church in Manayunk was also on hand to send the runners off with a prayer and well wishes.

Maureen Wittman, Shane’s cousin and spokesperson for the family, said the family was thrilled with Saturday’s event despite the difficult circumstances they are facing this holiday season.

“There was a wonderful turnout and there were people from all over that came out to support our family,” she said, while also thanking Goals Fit for dedicating their annual Jolly Run to raise awareness for her cousin.

“It’s important because we need to keep Shane’s face and story out there so people are aware of the situation. We as a family and community are still looking and will not stop looking until we find him. Today showed the endless and continued support for our family from the neighborhood as well as other countless individuals who also want to see Shane come home. Their support is what helps get us all out of the bed in the morning,” she said. 

Montgomery is described as a 5-foot 11-inch tall white male, weighing between 130 and 140 pounds with short brown hair and green eyes.

He was last seen leaving Kildaire’s Irish Pub on Main Street in Manayunk and wearing a gray button-down shirt, blue jeans, gray hooded sweatshirt and black sneakers. He has a tattoo of a Celtic cross on his shoulder blade.

The reward for information leading to Montgomery’s whereabouts is $65,000.
