SEPTA starts food drive for those in need

SEPTA is trying to encourage riders to pitch in and feed hungry people in the region.

The goal is to help Philabundance stock its shelves, while people begin stocking their own shelves for the holidays.

The Stop Hunger at Your Station campaign is the transit agency’s seventh annual food drive, said  SEPTA general manager Jeff Knueppel.

“At this time of year, many people are prepping their kitchens,” he said Friday. “They aren’t looking at their cabinets to see what extra items they have to donate to the local food bank.”

SEPTA has set up 43 collection points where riders can donate.

“The items we collect at the Stop Hunger at Your Station food drive are crucial to feeding families across our region by keeping the shelves filled and the doors of its almost 400 member agencies open,” Knueppel said.

The campaign runs through Oct. 30.
