Senator Carper, Governor Markell visit doomed Delaware pickle plant

Workers at Millsboro’s Vlasic pickle plant, which is set to close by the end of the year, will get a visit today from Governor Jack Markell and Senator Tom Carper.

Carper has also invited representatives of the Delaware Economic Development Office, Delaware Department of Labor and Sussex County government to join what he called an “all-hands-on-deck effort to help those impacted by this decision during the plant’s transition.”  The decision by Pinnacle Foods to close the plant and consolidate operations affects about 150 to 200 workers, in addition to area farmers who grow cucumbers for the facility.  Congressman John Carney also said in a statement that he also would remain in close contact with the Department of Labor to support workers with transitional assistance and training opportunities.
