Seaside Heights: Boardwalk construction update

Today marks a huge turning point for Seaside Heights, N.J. Britain’s Prince Harry visits the coastal town that was heavily damaged during Superstorm Sandy. Also, the demolition of the JetStar roller coaster is scheduled to begin several hours after the Prince departs.

While all this is happening, progress continues on the rebuilding of Seaside Heights’ boardwalk. With tourism dollars comprising about 70 percent of Seaside Heights’ budget, borough officials are eager to ensure the boardwalk will be ready before the unofficial start of summer Memorial Day weekend. Construction of the boardwalk began in mid-Feb and this week more than half of the boardwalk appears completed and the support piles are in place for the remaining areas.

To see a live view of the boardwalk construction there is a webcam positioned over the boardwalk at Casino Pier.
