Schuylkill River crash victim identified, autopsy pending

Philadelphia Police have confirmed the body found in the Schuylkill River Monday afternoon is that of the victim from Thursday’s car crash at Kelly Drive and Ferry Road.

Police have not yet released her identity, citing uncertainty about what last name will appear on the death certificate. They have, howerver, notified her family. NBC10 has reported that sources close to the family have identified the victim as 29-year-old Chrystal Wallace Ferrall, a mother of two children.

Lt. Ray Evers said pedestrians walking along the river discovered the body near Kelly Drive and Hunting Park Avenue at 4 p.m. Monday.

The woman went missing in the river on Thursday afternoon after her car went through a stone wall and into the water. The body was found roughly a half of a mile from the crash site.

The car was traveling southbound on Ferry Road from the direction of the Route 1 Ridge Avenue off-ramp when it ran into a wall along the riverbank at a very high speed and crashed into the river. Witnesses said they saw the victim near the third bridge pillar screaming for help before she was swept downstream and disappeared.

Search crews, who had been using sonar mapping, retrieved the victim’s car, a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis, from the river Thursday night with a crane.
