Residents near Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst might hear “booms” and feel “rumbles” on Thursday.

Base personnel will be conducting routine training — “big boom stuff,” a military release states — on the installation’s ranges until 4:30 p.m.

“Thank you for your understanding as we train America’s best warfighters! Remember: cloudy conditions can makes the booms seem louder or closer than they actually are,” the release states. “Rest assured we are taking every precaution to keep our service members and surrounding community safe.”

Area residents may experience ground shaking and considerable noise emanating from the base’s ranges.

The 42,000-acre base spans more than 20 miles through portions of Burlington and Ocean counties.
