Right NEast/Wrong NEast: CBS3 mistakes Harrowgate for Northeast

CBS3 moved the Tacony/Frankord Creek and nobody told us.

Back in December the station reported that a pregnant woman was struck by a stray bullet “inside aNortheast Philadelphia home.” The victim suffered no critical injuries, but CBS managed to make worse an already unfortunate situation.

The 3200-block of Gransback Street is so far below the Frankford Creek border of the Northeast, there’s no way it should be mistaken for being part of our region.

Getting a neighborhood name wrong may seem like small potatoes when something as serious as a shooting occurs. But the media do a major disservice to the public when they make these errors by not only failing to highlight a problem where it’s actually taking place, but  also by creating a problem in the wrong location.

And we’ve said it before: If a simple detail like the location is wrong, what other facts in the story might be misreported?

Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast Philly wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
