Right NEast/Wrong NEast: First offense by the District Attorney’s office

Well then the city’s District Attorney can’t even get Philadelphia’s regions right, no wonder big media outlets have such a hard time.

A Torresdale man was arrested in mid-March for starving his father to death. Surprisingly, all the city newspapers and TV stations either got the neighborhood name right or just played it safe by using “Northeast Philadelphia.”

And then came a blog post from D.A. Seth Williams:

Yes, “North Philadelphia.” To be fair to Williams, entries are posted under the name of his press secretary, not his own name. But the post reflects the office in general, and the message it send is, we’re not paying close enough attention to Philadelphia neighborhoods or the crimes in them.

Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast Philly wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
