Retail expansion in Bear takes another twist

The News Journal reports the strange fate of the proposed Governor’s III Commercial Center in Bear has taken a bizarre turn.

Opponents to the center were surprised to learn New Castle County Council voted to lift a deed restriction on the property at Routes 7 and 40.  Two members didn’t even realize they had done that.  However, the council did table a vote on whether to rezone the area from and office complex to allow for the construction of a shopping center.

The paper reports the deed restriction was one of several resolutions put on the consent calendar portion of Tuesday’s meetings.  The vote on the ordinance to allow the change will take place at the February 22nd meeting.
