Rare prison artifacts on display at Eastern State Penitentiary [photos]

Where else but a historic prison in a historic city could you see cutlery made from soup bones and an old shank?

A temporary exhibit is now open at Philadelphia’s Eastern State Penitentiary showcasing artifacts found inside the old prison.

The “pop-up museum” will only be around for 10 days because the lack of climate-controlled spaces behind the Fairmount jail’s walls could mean trouble for the found items.

Among the never-before-seen artifacts? A mugshot book, inmate crafts and a wallet made from a cigarette pack, plus about 70 other items.
