PUC to hold hearings on power outages in Pennsylvania due to storm

A hearing will be held tonight  to review this winter’s power outages in the Philadelphia region. The Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission wants to listen to those who had no power for multiple days.

The hearing at the Montgomery County Community College Advanced Technology Center in Blue Bell, is designed to follow up on how PECO dealt with power restorations.

Jennifer Kocher of the PUC says she wants to hear from people who waited up to 9 days for the lights to come back on.

“When it came to estimated times of restoration and the information they were receiving and so what we wanted to do was hear directly from the public as part of our review,” Kocher said. “Take the opportunity to sit down listen to those who were interested an hear their input.”

Kocher says the PUC is doing a top-to-bottom review of the incident.

“We’re still in some of the early stages, we’re moving through a lot of the data collection, and a lot of the information from the utility and this is just another piece of the puzzle that we are putting together to take a look at this storm,” she said. 

A second hearing will be held Wednesday night at the Tredyffrin Township Building in Berwyn.
