PlanPhilly has a new managing editor: Ariella Cohen

As interim Managing Editor, I’m thrilled to announce that Ariella Cohen is the new Managing Editor for PlanPhilly.

Ariella is an award-winning journalist with more than a decade of experience reporting on urban development, planning, and politics. She joins WHYY from Next City, where she is editor-in-chief of the country’s leading independent online urban policy website. She has been with the Philadelphia-based national publication since 2012. In 2009, Ariella co-founded The Lens, a nationally recognized, investigative news website covering New Orleans. She started her career as a staff reporter for the Brooklyn Paper in New York.

Ariella was hired after an exhaustive, six-month long search. In the end, Ariella’s deep expertise in PlanPhilly’s coverage areas and experience growing audiences in a niche field separated her from the dozens of other well-qualified candidates.

Ariella begins as Managing Editor on January 2, 2018. I will happily return to fulltime coverage of transportation issues and the built environment.
