Some seasonal positions are available at the Philadelphia Recreation Department. It is part of a plan to help keep children safe this summer.

Philadelphia Recreation Commissioner Susan Slawson says the department is looking to fill hundreds of positions for the summer.

“We have a wonderful opportunity this summer,” says Slawson. “We will be able to offer 1,100 seasonal positions for our young people. We’ve already gotten up to eight to nine hundred people go online and complete the registration coming on board for our season of summer jobs, and I think that’s huge.”

The commissioner says the goal of the summer jobs program and other recreational activities is to keep children safe.

The city is also planning to open 70 pools this summer to provide a safe haven during the worst of the summer heat.
