Pa. Convention Center looking for a few good artists

Listen

The Pennsylvania Convention Center is looking for more art to spruce up its expansion area.

Convention Center Authority CEO John McNichol says $1.2 million is available to buy art work to outfit a new section of the facility in Center City.

“This collection, it was the board’s decision to insist that artists be Pennsylvania artists,” McNichol said. “It doesn’t mean that their work has to represent necessarily Pennsylvania.”

McNichol says art submissions will be judged by a group unknown to the artists.

“Whatever you want to send, it can be print, photo sculupture, whatever you want to send,” he said.

More information is available at the convention center’s website, www.paconvention.com.

The authority spent about $2 million on art for the original portion of the center. McNichol says that work has been recently re-appraised at $9.7 million.
