Outreach from PennFuture on gas drilling

Governor Tom Corbett wants to open up more of our state forest to gas drilling. Please tell him NO.

A comprehensive study done by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) showed that leasing more public land for drilling would kill jobs, hurt the economy, and destroy the forests. As a result, in late October of 2010, then Governor Ed Rendell issued a ban on new state forest leases for gas drilling.

On election night, Governor Corbett said one of his first acts in office will be to end the leasing ban. He made the announcement without consulting the DCNR studies or talking to forest management experts.

Tell him no new drilling leases in our state forests. We need to protect our state forests for the jobs in tourism and sustainable forestry, and for our environment.

Send Governor Corbett a message now telling him to continue the ban on leasing public land to protect the rich heritage of our state forests.

Together we can make a difference.

Sincerely,

Christine Knapp
