One man dead in mid-morning Wilmington shooting

Wilmington Police are investigating a double shooting Tuesday morning that left one man dead and another with gunshot wounds.

Police found two 23-year-old victims in the 2200 block of N. Market St. just before 11 a.m. Tuesday. One man had a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead on the scene. The second victim had gunshot wounds to his arm and chest. He was taken to Christiana Hospital in critical condition.

Police say the investigation is in its early stages. The area was still completely closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic as of 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Last month, Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki increased police efforts in response to a rash of violent incidents at the start of the year. In mid-January, police started working overtime patrols both in cars and on foot in hot spots for violence.
