One dead, one critical after East Mt. Airy shooting

One man is dead and another is in critical condition tonight after they were gunned down in East Mt. Airy. Philadelphia Police say around 8:34 p.m. in the east 200 block of Sharpnack St., near Emlen Elementary, the two were riddled with bullets. One victim, who was pronounced dead at Einstein Hospital, sustained a shot to the head, chest, back, and three shots in the leg.

The second victim was shot multiple times in the upper torso and was listed in critical condition at Einstein Hospital.

Inspector Joe Bartorilla, who used to serve as Captain of the 14th District, says police pursued three male suspects, who were wearing all black. One suspect fled in a van and was apprehended in the 200 block of Rosemary Lane. A female was also seen being handcuffed, but police did reveal what her role might have been.

The other two suspects were last seen in the area near Carpenter Lane Station in West Mt. Airy. Officers searching the neighborhood at 9:20 p.m. told Newsworks that they were searching for two African-American males, one without a shirt.
