Odd incident at Delaware’s I-95 Service Plaza

Two state troopers were overcome by the fumes of some chemical while investigating a suspicious vehicle at the travel plaza.

The two troopers are being treated for what police describe as “non-life-threatening exposure to an unknown chemical”  at Christiana Hospital.

They were called to the travel plaza to investigate a car that had been abandoned at the pumps of the Sunoco gas station at the plaza.  They were overcome by fumes that came from the vehicle’s trunk.

A hazardous materials team from the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control was assisted by local fire departments in setting up a safety perimeter around the car.  The area has since been deemed safe.
