Number of police pursuits drops in 2010 in PA

    Law enforcement agencies statewide are reporting a drop in police pursuits from 2010, according to a report issued Wednesday by the Pennsylvania State Police.

    State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan announced today there were 1,413 vehicle pursuits in 2010, compared to 1,582 pursuits in 2009.

    Pennsylvania State Police say last year’s pursuits resulted in 583 crashes with 174 of them involving injuries.

    Nine people died as a result of the pursuits, including eight people who died while fleeing police and one additional person who was not directly involved in a pursuit, according to state police.
