Friday, November 16, design charrette 8am-6pm; public reveal 4-6pm. Center for Architecture, 1218 Arch Street. As the area around 46th and Market changes – thanks to the new Youth Study Center, a branch of Children’s Hospital, and the future headquarters of the Philadelphia Police Department – how can this emerging health and services district also serve neighbors? A design charrette from 8am-4pm will explore ways to create a sustainable community at 46th and Market, and the public reveal and reception will take place at 4pm. Register online.
Saturday, November 17. Citywide. Volunteer with park groups across the city to help clean up parks and get them ready for winter, raking leaves and planting bulbs. Find a place to volunteer online.
Saturday, November 17, 11am-5pm. Meet at Fairmount Water Works. The ride will set out from the Fairmount Water Works, and traverse the city with a lunch stop at Penn Treaty Park for a BYO picnic with the Athletic Base Ball Club of Philadelphia, then ending at Rembrandt’s in Fairmount. Sport your finest tweed – blazers, caps (helmets?!), knickers – and compete for prizes as the most Dapper Chap, Snappy Lass, Marvelous Mustache, Magnificent Millinery, and Stylish Steed. Riders are asked to donate $1 (or more) for Philabundance.
