Hello Eyes on the Street! Need a little weekend inspiration? Here’s what’s happening in Philly. 

LECTURE: Léger, Le Corbusier and Paris futur

Friday, November 15, 6:30-8pm. Philadelphia Museum of Art, Van Pelt Auditorium. Anthony Vidler, professor of the History of Art and Architecture at Brown, will discuss the idea of the new city, which animated the imaginations of artists, architects, and filmmakers in the 1920s. His lecture will explore the friendship of artist Fernand Léger with the architect Le Corbusier and their participation in the avant-garde journal L’Esprit Nouveau. Tickets are required, reserve them online.

VOLUNTEER: LOVE Your Park Fall Service Day

Saturday, November 16. Times and locations vary. Join neighbors across the city as they clean and spruce up Philly’s neighborhood parks. Volunteers will rake leaves, plant bulbs and new trees, work on special projects and prepare the parks for winter. 

WORKSHOP: Urban Waters Green Stormwater Infrastructure 

Saturday, November 16. 10am – 12:30pm. Vernon Park, Black Writers Museum, 5800 Germantown Ave. Philadelphia. The Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership, Inc. is hosting a free urban water, green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) workshop with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society this Saturday. Participants will learn how to identify and maintain GSI projects through hands-on skill building. RSVP to Alex Cooper at cooper@ttfwatershed.org.

BIKE ‘N LEARN: Women Bike PHL class, seminar and ride

Saturday, November 16. 9:30am – 11:30am. Trophy Bikes, 712 N. 2nd Street, Philadelphia. Fix-a-flat, prepare for winter, ride a bike, eat a sandwich. All of that is possible this weekend at the Women Bike PHL event this Saturday. At 9:30am mechanic Arianna Gass will teach a fix-a-flat class. At 10:15am lady bikers will talk about prepping for winter weather, and at 11:30am a group will leave the shop for a 10-mile bike ride that will end at Paesano’s on Girard. CHEER: 20th Annual Philadelphia Marathon

Sunday, November 17. 7am. 22nd Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia. This weekend is loaded with events and activities surrounding the 20th annual Philadelphia Marathon. The main event itself kicks off at 7am, and runners can be spotted from vantage points throughout the city. Uwishunu has a marathon weekend guide for those looking to watch the race or partake in the race-related events. 

CELEBRATE: Hamilton Family Arts Center Community Day

Sunday, November 17. 10am-2pm. Hamilton Family Arts Center, 62 N. 2nd Street. This week Old City’s Arden Theatre Company takes a major step forward with the grand opening of its new Hamilton Family Arts Center – a needed expansion for the growing theater company. Sunday the Arden will host an afternoon-long, family-friendly community day celebration to welcome the public into the new space.
