Authorities say a southern New Jersey man who was physically impaired from cerebral palsy has drowned in his family’s swimming pool.

Officials say relatives found the 45-year-old man at the bottom of the nine-foot in-ground pool Wednesday evening in Williamstown, Gloucester County.

Authorities say family members tried unsuccessfully to revive him. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Relatives tell officials the man was in the pool exercising a weakened leg. They say they had left him for a just a minute or two and didn’t hear any cries for help. They say the man also had asthma.
