N.J. ‘Click it or Ticket’ campaign starts next week
New Jersey law enforcement agencies have all hands on deck as the state’s “Click it or Ticket” campaign gears up.Starting Monday, seatbelt enforcement checkpoints and saturation patrols will be set up to crack down on those cruising through the Garden State sans-seatbelt.
It’s no coincidence the crackdown will run through Memorial Day – one of the busiest times on the road.According to a 2011 Fairleigh Dickinson University survey, 94.51 percent of front-seat motorists and passengers wore their seatbelts, compared with 81.2 percent in 2003. Back seat compliance hovers around 61 percent.New Jersey issued more than 32,000 seatbelt citations during last year’s campaign. This year’s initiative runs May 21 through June 3.
