New Philadelphia sheriff promises to restore trust

Philadelphia has a new Sheriff.  He admits there is plenty of work to do in the office.

Sheriff Jewell Williams says he want to restore integrity to the office which is in the midst of a federal investigation for mishandling funds.”The problem that we have right now is the public doesn’t really trust the sheriff’s office because of the past activities but those days are gone,” said Williams.  “We are moving forward and we are working to have a better sheriff’s office.  We are going to work very hard to make the office more open and more transparent.”Sheriff Williams says he also wants to address the problem of court security and proper handling of prisoners.”They are understaffed by 40 deputies over in the Criminal Justice Center,” he said.  “Thank God nothing has happened over the past years, we are going to have to lobby to get more money to get more deputies in those courtrooms.”The sheriff is a former State Representative who says his contacts in Harrisburg might come in handy finding some more money for his office.
