New Jersey Legislature passes fracking ban
Though the state doesn’t have much natural gas to speak of, the New Jersey Legislature yesterday voted yesterday to ban hydraulic fracturing.
Public interest organization Food & Water Watch called the vote a “pioneering move” in a release about the bill’s passing.
The Senate voted 32-1 and the Assembly voted 56-11 to pass the bill to ban the natural gas drilling process that involves injecting water, sand and chemicals underground to break up rock formations and release natural gas.
Gov. Chris Christie’s signature is the only thing standing in the bill’s way now.
