New bridge connects Schuylkill Banks with Schuylkill River Park

After a long wait, it took less than 15 minutes for crews to hoist the metal span over the CSX tracks on Thursday, creating a new link for pedestrians and cyclists between the Schuylkill River Trail and Schuylkill River Park.

I stood in Schuylkill River Park’s beautiful Community Garden to watch as a crane carefully lifted the bridge, turning it in midair and slowly placed it onto anchor bolts atop concrete supports. Here’s how it went down:
