National Night Out programs send a message to the criminal element

Delawareans are being encouraged to take part in the annual National Night Out crime awareness and prevention program.

The National Association of Town Watch began the annual activity in 1984, encouraging residents to leave their outdoor lights on to discourage crime.  Public gatherings have also become a feature of National Night Out, which is being held in downtown Smyrna, Dover and several other communities throughout the state.
