NAACP suspends Philly chapter president Jerry Mondesire
The embattled president of the Philadelphia chapter of the NAACP has been suspended by the national organization.
The local chapter confirmed President Jerry Mondesire and three other officials have all been removed, pending a hearing. Donald “Ducky” Birts, Rev. Elisha Morris and Sid Booker had accused Mondesire of mishandling the group’s finances.
News of the suspensions was originally reported in the Philadelphia Tribune. Other Philadelphia-area publications reported earlier this year members had called for an audit after finding Mondesire was directing NAACP donations through a defunct nonprofit he founded called The Next Generation CDC.
The organization would not provide further comment. Mondesire and the other suspended members have not returned calls seeking comment.
