Movie about Immaculata basketball team to be released
Cinderella stories of male teams and athletes in the world of sports movies are numerous, but now a female basketball team’s story will join the ranks.
The Mighty Macs, originally entitled Our Lady of Victory, will be hitting theaters Oct. 21.
The film tells the story of a “scrappy team from Immaculata College that won the first national basketball title for women in 1972,” as the Associated Press reports. The team then went on to win two more championships in 1973 and 1974.
The movie will feature Carla Gugino, Philadelphia’s own David Boreanaz, Marley Shelton and Ellen Burstyn. Parts of the film were shot in West Chester in 2007.
Immaculata, now a university, was at one time an all-female institution, but has since gone co-ed.
