‘Mount Airy Home Companion’ a hit with the public

Humorist Jim Harris may have a hit on his hands. Harris recently staged a take-off of the public radio show A Prairie Home Companion at Allens Lane Art Center on May 27, 2012 and the crowd loved it.

In his version “Mount Airy Home Companion,” Harris poked fun at all of Mt. Airy stereotypes out there. There was the 19119 obsession with public radio itself with his version of “Hot Air,” a spin on Terry Gross’ Fresh Air, there was a Weavers Way tofu-loving cult, and neighborhood’s image of being made up of vegan-loving, compost-obsessed, left-leaning Philadelphians.

Harris is a columnist for The Chestnut Hill Local and has also written for NewsWorks. This was a production by Harris and his band Saint Mad and The Mount Airy Players.

NewsWorks recorded the show and in the coming months we’ll be presenting excerpts here. Today’s video features The Mount Airy Players on stage presenting the “news” before ”Mount Airy Home Companion.” The actors on stage are Andrew Pettit,  Loretta-Lucy Miller, Matt Nicholas, Heather Cole and Andrew Cris
