More pleas, no death penalty in Piazza double-murder trial

More guilty pleas have come through in the 2009 double-murder at Norther Liberties’ Piazza, bringing the grand total of defendants to three. Those tapped for trial won’t face the death penalty.

The Inquirer reports the death penalty is off the table in the botched drug robbery that left Rian Thal and Timothy Gilmore dead inside one of the complex’s apartment buildings.

Alleged gunman Donnell Murchison pleaded guilty yesterday, earning himself two consecutive life prison terms without chance of parole. Will Hook, Edward Daniels and Antonio Wright will go to trial, with jury selection starting tomorrow.
