Independence Day celebrations start early in Mercer County with the return of 11th annual Freedom Festival in Mercer County Park, West Windsor, NJ.
This year organizers have expanded the free event to three days of fun and live performances, from Jun 26-28.
“Country Night” gets the festivities rolling on Friday evening, at 5 p.m., with music acts Nashville Attitude and Madeline Smith.
Saturday’s theme is “Top 40 Night”, featuring performances by Kristen and The Noise, plus Burnt Sienna. Fireworks will follow the concert.
The music continues on Sunday with The Jersey Four, a Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons tribute band and the New Jersey Capital Philharmonic Orchestra.
Besides music, the event offers plenty of family-friendly activities, such as water rides, carnival rides, tethered hot air balloon rides, face painting, a bounce house and pony rides. A dozen craft vendors will also be onsite.
When hunger hits, grab a bite from one of the 24 food tucks and vendors. Visitors can also purchase tickets to buy alcoholic beverages from the beer and wine garden.
On Saturday, there is even more fun lined up.
Bring your appetite and get in on the pizza and hot dog eating contests.
Love dachshunds? Check out the wiener dog races.
Hot rod enthusiasts will want to check out (or even enter) the car and truck show. Autos will be on display Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. and again in a special “night light” show from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Organizers anticipate 40,000 to attend over the entire weekend with Saturday’s crowds equalling half the total draw.
As always, parking and admission are free. Pets are welcome at the festival, but must be leashed.
Carnival rides cost $1.25 for a single ticket, $30 for a family sheet of 26 tickets or $60 for a super saver sheet of 55 tickets.
Friday, June 26, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday, June 27, 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., Sunday, June 28, noon to 9 p.m. – 1638 Old Trenton Rd., West Windsor Twp., NJ.
