Preliminary hearing delayed for suspect in 2011 Mt. Airy homicide

A 28-year-old man facing first degree murder charges in connection to a shooting death in the city’s West Mount Airy section is now scheduled to appear in court Aug. 21. This after today’s preliminary hearing was rescheduled.

Tony Mason of East Germantown was arrested on Oct. 27 and charged for the murder of Anthony Mitchell in the early morning hours of Oct. 22.

According to police, members of a SWAT team responded to the 100 block of West Sharpnack Street and found Mitchell, 28, inside his home with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:12 a.m.

Mason will await his court appearance from inside Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility on State Road.
