Authorities suspect a homeless man was intoxicated when he fell into a Jersey Shore river and died.

South Toms River police were called to Mathis Park shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday after a person reported that a man had been walking near the Toms River’s edge and fell into the water.

The man, identified as Edward Kosar, 51, was found floating face down and transported to the shoreline.

The Ocean County prosecutor’s office says surveillance video Kosar stumbling and having trouble walking from apparent intoxication before he fell into the river.
