Architecture in Film Series: Brazil

Monday, July 2, 6:30pm, screening begins at 7:15. Philadelphia Center for Architecture, 1218 Arch Street. The last in this season’s Architecture in Film series is Brazil. The series is hosted by John DeFazio, AIA (Architect & Associate Professor at Drexel University) and Nick Grouch, Assoc. AIA. Films begin with a discussion of the relevant themes and elements to notice during the screening and are followed by an informal discussion. Come at 6:30pm before every film for a wine and cheese reception. $5-$10 suggested donation at door.

Philly Pops! on Independence Mall

Tuesday, July 3, 8pm. Independence Mall. Peter Nero and the Philly Pops return to Independence Mall for their annual free concert to celebrate American Independence. Seating is first-come-first served and audience-members are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Free.

4th of July in Germantown

Wednesday, July 4, 11am-3pm. Spend 4th of July in historic Germantown. Tour Hood Cemetery (4901 Germantown Ave.) from 11am-1pm, the final resting place of 41 Revolutionary War soldiers. Stop by Stenton (4601 N. 18th Street) from 11:30am-1:30pm for colonial games, music, treats, and visit with Benjamin Franklin. Tour Clivden (6401 Germantown Ave.), the city’s only Revolutionary War battle site, and visit the house’s newly-opened servants’ quarters. At 2pm take in the bell-ringing ceremony at Concord School and Upper Burying Ground (6309 Germantown Ave.) ring one time for each year since the Declaration of Independence. And at 2:30pm head over to the Johnson House (6306 Germantown Ave.) for a performance by ‘Oney Judge’ that reflects on the meaning of independence at this Underground Railroad station. Philly 4th of July Jam & Grand Finale Fireworks

Wednesday, July 4, 8-11pm. Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The Roots are America’s house band, so it’s only fitting they’ll be backing performers like Queen Latifah, Daryl Hall, and Common for this year’s Philly 4th of July Jam. After the concert, enjoy grand finale fireworks over the Art Museum.

Screenings Under the Stars: Mission Impossible

Thursday, July 5, 8:30pm. Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, Columbus Boulevard at Chestnut Street. Come see movies on the big screen at Penn’s Landing’s River Stage on Thursday nights in July and August. First up: Misison Impossible. Free.
