Inky reports Philly building owner warned of danger
A newspaper reports the property manager of a Philadelphia building that collapsed and killed six people last month warned the city the partially demolished structure could crumble with deadly consequences.
The Philadelphia Inquirer report cites correspondence including requests from the property owner to the city to intervene in its dispute with the Salvation Army.
The newspaper reports that although the city never stepped in as requested the demolition of the empty four-story building continued until it collapsed on June 5.
The paper said STB Investments Corp. cited an impasse with the Salvation Army over several issues. The Inquirer also reported STB promised in May to use a safer demolition method than actually used.
An STB attorney declined comment and a Salvation Army attorney disputed some of STB’s contentions.
