Inauguration schedule set for Wilmington’s Mayor-elect

Mayor-elect Dennis P. Williams will be sworn in on Jan. 8, 2013, making him Wilmington’s 55th mayor.

Williams will break from tradition by holding his swearing-in ceremony at East Side Charter School, instead of with city Council. Williams attended East Side Charter, back when it was North East Elementary.

“It’s important for me to return to my roots and inspire these students to believe that they too can one day become Mayor,” said Williams.

That night, Mayor-elect Williams will then deliver his inaugural address during Council’s inauguration ceremony.

His swearing-in kicks off what Williams is calling his “‘It’s a New Day’ Inauguration Celebration Week.” Festivities include a pizza party with Williams at the Delaware Children’s Museum, a tea with Wilmington’s First Lady, Shayne Williams, and lastly, an inaugural ball at the Riverfront.

Except for the tea and the gala, all of Williams’ inauguration events are free and open to the public.
