Delaware leaders remember Beau Biden during a memorial service at Legislative Hall in Dover.

Here are some of their thoughts:

Governor Jack Markell-

“Because of what Beau Biden did in this very building, the children of Delaware are safer for generations to come. Delaware’s seniors are more secure, crime victims are more certain that the state stands behind them. Students are more confident that bullies will be held accountable. Beau made Delaware a better place for us all… To the Biden family, we cannot begin to understand the depths of your loss, know that we grieve with you. Beau is now of the ages. He and you have our eternal gratitude.”

State Senate Pres. Pro-Tem Patricia Blevins-

“Throughout his brief lifespan, he touched and enriched numerous lives, and will long be remembered as a fine and exemplary son of the First State. He made the world in which he lived better for having passed through it. May unto him be granted rest eternal and may perpetual light shine upon him.”

 State House Speaker Peter Schwartzkopf-

“The centerpiece of his legacy in public service will be that he took on some of the worst criminals and protected the children of our state, especially those who could not speak for themselves. He earned my respect and my loyalty when he put aside his lifelong dream of going to Washington, and ran for reelection because, in his words to me, ‘I can’t leave those kids and their parents when they need me the most.’ Our children live in a safer state because of Beau Biden.”

Delaware Attorney General Matt Denn-

“Politics can be a hard line of work to be in when you have young kids. It’s even harder when you step up and serve your country overseas like Beau did, and harder still when your presence is demanded all over the country. But Beau knew how important it was to be present for Hallie and his kids…Natalie and Hunter knew how much Beau loved them because he made sure they knew. Because when he was being pulled in a dozen different directions, he remembered what was most important. He was taken from them far too soon, but the love he shared with them will stay with them forever.”
