The USO of Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey was on hand to accept a donation of $100,000 collected from a Wawa in-store campaign. A booth supplied thank you cards and pens that allowed hoagie lovers to write notes to soldiers overseas.
The Pa. National Armed Guard and National Air Guard faced off in a hoagie building contest, racing to make the most in three minutes to benefit the Widows Fund and the Survivor’s Fund.
“Hoagie Day is an opportunity for the civilian population to connect with our military in a fun way and when you build that bridge you build a bridge of knowledge, understanding and ultimately appreciation,” said Joe Brooks, President of the USO of Pa. and Southern N.J.
Hoagie lover and retired Northeast Philadelphian Judith Williams enjoyed her free hoagie in park.
