High turnout for councilmanic redistricting event

Philadelphia, you must really be fed up.

More than 100 of you came to WHYY last night to try your hand at redrawing the city’s council districts. The idea was to let you decide how the councilmanic map should look instead of leaving it to City Council.

And though the best maps will be put in front of your district reps, two council members showed up last night — including Maria Quinones Sanchez, who happens to head one of the nation’s most gerry-mandered districts.

Here’s News and Civic Dialogue Director Chris Satullo’s list of the wrongs you want to see made right.

You can still submit your map using Azavea’s online too, which you can learn to use during a webinar session. Council will remap the city in September after three public meetings of its own.
