Delaware lawmakers scrutinize state spending requests

The second week of hearings continues in Dover on Governor Markell’s proposed $3.54-billion budget for Fiscal Year 2013.

The General Assembly’s Joint Finance Committee meets for a total of six weeks to review spending requests from various state agencies, as well as state-funded educational institutions.  Today’s hearings will cover the Insurance Department, the Department of Justice and the Department of Elections.  Thursday, the Departments of State, Finance and Safety and Homeland Security will outline their budget priorities.  Hearings are being held at Legislative Hall in Dover.
