Judge demands new lawyer for Pearl Gosnell

Update: Pearl Gosnell’s lawyer has been removed for a conflict of interest, the Associated Press reports. Common Pleas Judge Benjamin Lerner said attorney Mary Maran’s visits to Pearl Gosnell in jail violated an order to build a firewall in the husband-wife defense. Maran’s firm is also representing Kermit Gosnell. Both Gosnells remain in jail.

Pearl Gosnell will appear in court today to request that her bail be lowered and that she be allowed to leave prison while she awaits trial.

The wife of Dr. Kermit Gosnell faces charges related to the abortion clinic the doctor ran in West Philadelphia. He is charged with eight counts of murder and multiple health violations.

The Associated Press reports Pearl Gosnell’s attorney is calling Pearl a “pawn in the effort to convict her husband.” Her bail is set at $1 million.
