Gas prices inch up in New Jersey, more hikes expected

Gas prices inched up in New Jersey last week and are expected to move higher as summer approaches.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says the price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $1.87 this past week. That’s 2 cents higher than a week ago but 30 cents less than the same week last year.

Nationally, a gallon of unleaded fell 2 cents to $2.04, which is 35 cents lower than a year ago but 23 cents higher over the last month.

AAA says regional gas prices are trending both up and down as some stations receive summer-blend gasoline.

Summer-blend gas costs more to produce, so drivers can expect to see higher prices in the next few weeks, though they will benefit from lower crude oil prices.
