Photos of the damaged Walnut Lane Bridge

Forbidden Drive under the Walnut Lane Bridge has been closed since late November due to falling concrete debris. An inspection of the bridge by the Streets Department indicates that the crumbling pieces are ornamental in nature and the structural integrity of the car bridge is intact.

We asked photographer Harry Branson to bring back some pictures of the bridge itself and to see if we could see for ourselves the areas where the bridge is falling apart. The slideshow will show you various views of the area while the photo below will give you a chance to play bridge inspector.

During the duration of the closure recreational users can still use Forbidden Drive from Lincoln Drive to the bridge or from Northwestern Ave to the bridge, but trail users will not be permitted to pass under the bridge. Those who are looking to travel “through” Forbidden Drive should seek alternate on-street routes, or consider accessing the street system at Bells Mill Road, Wises Mill Road, Green Lane, or Kitchens Lane.
