The Roxborough Development Corporation is in the process of organizing its first street festival this fall.

On Oct. 5, “Roxtoberfest” will take over Lyceum Avenue from noon until 6 p.m. The event aims to draw families with a variety of carnival activities with face painting, live music and a Moonbounce. Beer samplings will be offered to the adults.  James Calamia, the Operations Manager of the RDC, says this family-friendly event highlighting local businesses is something the organization has wanted to do for a while.

“This is something that we’re putting together in the heart of our commercial district to help our commercial district,” said Calamia. “Having a family fun event that brings young professionals to Ridge Avenue is really what is driving this for us. We are working on revitalizing Ridge Avenue, helping businesses on Ridge to be successful, and bringing businesses together to promote them.”

To visualize their goals, the RDC solicited the help of Advent, an advertising, event planning, and entertainment firm in Roxborough. Advent’s owner, Joe DeCandido, says the business community has expressed early interest in participating in Roxtoberfest, and a local bank is interested in the title sponsorship.
