Firefighters rescued a dog from a fire that severely damaged a West Wildwood house last Thursday, officials said.

Firefighters rescued a dog from a fire that severely damaged a West Wildwood house last Thursday, officials said.
The blaze broke out in a West Maple Avenue house shortly after 12:30 a.m., according to a Wildwood Fire Department news release.
Arriving firefighters from Wildwood, North Wildwood, and West Wildwood arrived to find heavy fire on the house’s second and third stories and subsequently requested nearby fire companies.
Despite the severe conditions, crews managed to keep the two-alarm blaze to the building of origin, although the adjacent buildings suffered heat, smoke, and water damage.
The occupants managed to escape prior to the fire department’s arrival. Wildwood firefighters rescued one dog and turned the animal over to the homeowners. No injuries were reported.
The fire was placed under control around 1:45 a.m. Officials estimate damage at $200,000. The Cape May County Fire Marshal’s office is investigating.
